In 1970 Seiko introduced a diver's watch whose asymmetrical case shape protected the crown at the four o'clock position. The watch proved its reliability in extreme conditions when worn by Japanese adventurer Naomi Uemura in 1974 and 1976 during the 12,500 km dog sled race from Greenland to Alaska.
